Call for applications for the Youth Voice Group

The World Bank would like to invite young people (15-25) to submit applications to become members of the Youth Voice (YV) group. The Youth Voice initiative is part of the larger effort on behalf of the World Bank to engage in a systematic dialogue with young people, either as individuals or as youth groups, so as to include their perspectives and needs in the development process.

The objective of the YV is to allow young people to bring to the World Bank fresh ideas and recommendations for youth programs and policies that are formed by their experiences, perspectives and priorities. The YV will include a diverse group of participants, such as youth from rural and urban areas and from diverse geographical locations, youth from diverse ethnic communities, young men and young women, youth with disabilities, etc. The YV will look at World Bank programs in Bosnia and Herzegovina to ensure that youth and children’s issues are adequately taken into consideration.

BiH’s Youth Voice group (YVG) was established in spring 2004. For more than 4 years, a group of 18 young people from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina have been working with the World Bank Country Office in BiH, and have been providing feedback to the Bank regarding its assistance program in the country. At this stage, the World Bank would like to select a group of eight young people to become new members of the Youth Voices group.

At this stage, the World Bank would like to select a group of eight ( young people to become new members of the Youth Voices group.

Requirements:

§ Age: preferably between the ages of 15-25

§ A passion/interest in discussing and analyzing issues of concern to young people in BiH

§ Language: English language, required

§ Basic knowledge in operating a computer and in Internet access

§ Commitment to dedicate some time to this initiative

§ Ability to work in a team with people who may have different ideas from yours

§ Ability to work under time pressure

§ Critical thinking, responsibility, creativity.

§ Ability to travel across country and abroad

The World Bank will offer the Youth Voices members training and exposure to the World Bank activities and programs.

If you would like to submit an application to participate, please fill out the Application for becoming a Youth Voice member and mail it by July 18, 2008. Application can be downloaded at http://www.worldbank.ba and www.yvgbih.com, or picked up at the World Bank Country Office in Sarajevo, UNITIC Towers, Fra Andjela Zvizdovica 1/17, B Tower (Reception Area). After the deadline, the World Bank staff will review the applications and contact only the youth who have been selected by July 27, 2008.
